What Could Go Wrong by Jessica Fowler

Quick witted and cute, girl meets boy, big misunderstanding, wedding photography drama, mishaps, fires, misunderstandings - this book has it all, and it’s funny.

This book was an absolute joy.

I found it to be beautifully written, and the perfect cozy escape for a lazy summer day.

As a bit of a pop culture nerd myself, I loved all those nods ranging from Lord of the Rings references to Gilmore Girls. Every pop culture moment felt natural rather than forced, giving the whole story a comforting, nostalgic warmth that made it effortless to fly right through.

Written from dual perspectives, it delivers a classic, feel good romcom plot: boy meets girl, a bit of miscommunication with an interesting premise, a temporary parting and an inevitable reunion.

What sets it apart from other frothy rom coms, is how brilliantly the miscommunication trope is handled. It creates genuine tension without ever taking over the plot or making the characters unbearable.

The real highlight, however, is the rekindling of their friendship. Watching two people with a shared history find their way back to each other emotionally adds a soft, deeply moving layer that leaves you completely invested and caring.

The story is laugh-out-loud funny in places, supported by a well-written cast of supporting characters (though be prepared for a mother-of-the-groom you will love to hate! What a bit*h)).

Even with a welcome, familiar, predictable romance framework, there are enough unexpected twists, witty dialogue, and emotional beats to keep you hooked from start to finish.

Warm, funny, and endlessly charming, this is a top-tier comfort read well worth your time.
